A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 10 PM CDT for the far west. Damaging winds to 60 mph and hail to 2 inches are the most likely hazards expected . A brief tornado or two is also possible.
Scattered storms are expected to develop across West Texas this afternoon before they reach our area late afternoon into the evening hours. A few severe storms may impact some our western counties with large hail and an isolated tornado threat. Another round of storms may develop overnight along the Red River with a few strong storms possible into Friday morning.
Localized flooding will continue to be a threat over the next several days especially over areas that have observed recent heavy rainfall. Average rainfall totals will range from 1-3 inches through Sunday with localized higher amounts near 4-5 inches possible. Use extra caution at low water crossings and in areas of poor drainage like urban or construction zones.
Periodic chances for showers and thunderstorms will continue through the weekend. Strong storms and heavy rainfall will be possible at times, so keep an eye on the forecast over the next several days. High temperatures in the mid 80s to near 90 degrees are expected by Tuesday/Wednesday of next week. Summer is on its way...
